Getting started

What the free dashboard is actually for

Snapshot is not a trial with the good parts removed. It answers one question properly, and it is designed to tell you honestly whether you need the paid view.

Free tiers usually work one of two ways. Either the product is fully functional for fourteen days and then stops, or it is permanently free and permanently annoying — a counter in the corner, a feature you keep bumping into, a nag screen.

Snapshot is neither. It is the position half of the product, kept indefinitely, with no forecast attached.

What you get

  • Your netted cash position across two connected accounts, refreshed on the same schedule as every other plan.
  • Ninety days of history, so you can see whether last month was normal.
  • Spending sorted by category and by vendor.
  • CSV export of anything on screen.
  • Account notification texts, if you want them.

That is a real tool. For a single-entity business with predictable income, it may be the only tool you need.

What you do not get, and why

No 90-day projection, no scheduled-item modelling, no report builder, one entity. Those are the parts that take real work to run and real work to get right, and they are the parts people pay for.

The line is drawn between “where am I” and “where is this going”. The first is a fact. The second is a model, and models cost money to maintain.

How to tell when you have outgrown it

There are three reliable signals, and none of them is a nag screen.

You have started keeping the forecast somewhere else. If there is a spreadsheet next to the dashboard where you type next month's expected receipts, you have already decided you need a projection — you are just maintaining it by hand.

You are asking about a specific future date. “Are we fine?” is a position question. “Are we fine on the fourteenth?” is a forecast question, and no amount of history will answer it.

You have a second set of books. One entity is a dashboard. Two is a reconciliation problem.

Start free on purpose

We would rather you set up Snapshot, use it for a month, and conclude that the current position is all you need, than pay for a forecast you never open. The upgrade prompt that matters is the one that comes from your own work, not from us.

And if you do move up, nothing is re-entered. The accounts, categories and history come with you.

The short version

  • Snapshot is the position half of Efiner, kept indefinitely — not a countdown.
  • The paid line starts where facts end and modelling begins.
  • Keeping a forecast in a side spreadsheet is the clearest signal to upgrade.
  • Moving up carries your accounts, categories and history with it.
